Helping Children Move Forward

Our specialized counsellors work with children who’ve experienced childhood trauma such as physical abuse, sexual abuse or witnessed domestic violence.

We offer both short-term interventions and longer-term counselling.

Trauma Counselling for Children

Our VISAC program (Vancouver) and TASA program (Richmond) work with children and youth (up to age nineteen) who have experienced sexual abuse and/or trauma, as well as non-offending family members. VISAC & TASA promote a respectful and supportive parent-child relationship.

Our Children Affected by Family Violence program (Vancouver) is available to children and youth ages 3 – 18 who have been exposed to violence in their homes. This program focuses on improving the child/youth’s emotional health and self-esteem and strives to:

  • Stop the cycle of violence by teaching non-violent ways to resolve conflict
  • Develop parental awareness of how violence affects the lives of their children
  • Provide community awareness of the effects of violence

Because play is the natural medium for self-expression in children, we use play therapy as well as art and sand therapy, talk therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Because a supportive parent(s)/caretaker(s) is the primary curative force in a child’s life, they are invited to be involved as co-therapists to help strengthen the child and to maximize the healing process. Referral for teens requires their consent.
