2017 Caring Neighbours Program – New Westminster

UPDATE: Thanks to your help, we have hit a record! 196 families and seniors have either been matched or will be receiving gift cards.

You can still help by making a donation. Your generous gift will be used for groceries and gift cards for essential winter items. Thank you for making this holiday season a little brighter for families in need.

Do something extra special this holiday season! Become a Caring Neighbour and adopt a family in need. You’ll get matched with a family in new Westminster (where this program is run), go shopping for gifts, and then deliver them to your family in person. It’s a wonderfully rewarding program. Get your family, workplace, team or church involved!
Register below, make a donation to the program, or contact the Caring Neighbours Program: 604-525-9144 ext 3659 or caringneighbours@fsgv.ca

“Being part of Caring Neighbours at Christmas was a wonderful, heart-warming experience. Our family was matched with 2 families and we all enjoyed shopping, wrapping, and delivering the gifts. Our family is so blessed, and being able to bring some of that to others is a great feeling. We felt the joy and spirit of what Christmas is supposed to be about when we met our families and gave them their gifts. We hope to make this an on-going holiday tradition for our family going forward.” – Caring Neighbours Sponsors

Adopt a Family

Help a less fortunate family  this Christmas! There are a couple of ways your business, your family, your team, your church or school can participate in this wonderfully rewarding program.

How it Works

Tell us the size of the family you would like to be connected with and we will match you as closely as possible. We will share with you the information you need about each person in the family (ages of children, gender, clothing size, hobbies and “wish lists”). Then you:

Buy the gifts, groceries, gift cards*

Wrap the presents

Personally deliver everything to the family’s home by December 18th

*Please consider that gift cards are ideal as they give families the flexibility to create the type of Christmas they want for their family.

How much should I budget?

We recommend budgeting $100-$120 for each person in the family. Of that, we suggest half (approximately $50 or $60) should be allocated to gifts for each child or senior and the remaining for food.

Make a donation of money or gift certificates directly to the Caring Neighbours Program and our volunteers will see to the rest. Any amount, big or small, will help to support families and seniors in New Westminster.

Please note that tax receipts are automatically issued for cash donations of $20 and above. Tax receipts for donated gift cards can also be issued, but CRA requires that the original store transaction receipt MUST be provided.
