Gift of Hope for Homeless Youth

Give Homeless Youth the Gift of Hope

Too many youth in Vancouver live on the streets, or in unsafe, unstable housing.

Last year, Directions worked with nearly 900 youth, supporting them with everything from hot meals to showers to assistance with finding permanent housing.

Help us help them!

See below for ways your business, family, church, school or team can help youth on the streets. Together, we can give youth the gift of hope.

Provide Clothing & Foot Care

Directions needs clothing donations, particularly:

Men’s Pants (especially sizes 28-big & tall); Hoodies; Sweaters (new or near new)

Socks & Underwear for all genders (new)

Many youth at Directions suffer from “street feet”, a painful condition caused by wet feet and unsanitary conditions. To alleviate street feet, we are looking for:

Socks, Epsom Salts, Foot Basins, Soap, Towels (new or near new)

We also need Razors and Tampons.

Drop off items anytime at Directions Youth Services Centre (1136 Burrard St, across from St Paul’s hospital).

Help a Youth Make a Home

Many homeless youth  have never had a place they could call home. At least 40% have been in the foster care system, bouncing around between temporary homes all their lives.

But when youth have stable housing where they can start to feel safe, make meals, do laundry, relax with friends, be warm, and sleep soundly, they can start building a healthy new life for themselves.

You can help youth who have never had a home leave the streets forever with a gift of $150. Your gift will purchase a home start-up kit, which includes the basics to live independently (bedding, pots, pans, dishes, and other crucial staples) that help make housing a home.

Help a youth get ID

Many homeless youth don’t have valid ID, which is a huge barrier to finding work, a place to live, or government services.

A gift of $100 is all it takes to help a homeless youth apply for their ID and open a door to a new life.
