1. Explore a Green World program volunteers
The "Explore a green world" program is looking for volunteers to help with the planning, preparation and celebration of environmental events which are offered free, all year around in the city of New Westminster. Volunteers will assist during events to families and children ( 0-6 years old) with educational activities, eco-friendly arts and crafts,  snack preparation, music settings, etc. Volunteers can also help from the comfort of their home, preparing recyclable materials (collection, cutting, cleaning, sorting, organizing) Instructions and supplies will be provided. Schedules of the events vary and are flexible to accommodate your availability.

Number of Volunteers needed: 5
Qualifications Sought:

Care about recycling and the environment

Enjoy working with families, children, and community

Like using creativity with arts and crafts

Want to increase and share knowledge on educational activities to reduce, reuse, and recycle

Worksite: City of New Westminster; various locations throughout the city of NW such as Parks and Recreation Facilities; play groups; family places; learning centres and more. You can also do this volunteer work from the comfort of your home preparing craft supplies and recyclables needed for the events.
Timeframe: Flexible. As minimum as 1 hour per week.
Hours needed: Flexible. The schedules vary according to the programming of the events all year round
Length of Commitment Sought: Flexible. The schedules vary according to the duration of the events all year round.

2. Child Minders – Vancouver Family Preservation Services
We are in need of volunteer child minders to look after children ages 0 – 5 while parents are attending parent education groups. We will provide a $5.00 honorarium to help with transportation costs.

Qualifications Sought:

Experience working with children.  A calm and friendly demeanor, ability to engage children, good problem solving skills, reliable.
Criminal Record Check required at no cost to volunteer.

Worksite: 3995 Fraser Street, Vancouver
Timeframe: 3.5 hours per week (September - July)
Hours preferred: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
9am – 12:30pm and 12:30pm - 3:15 pm
Length of Commitment Sought: We are hoping that volunteers will commit to a minimum 3 month time period for consistency with our client families.

3. Cooks – Vancouver Family Preservation Services
We are in need of several volunteers to prepare lunches for parents and children who are attending the Family Day program and parenting education groups. We will provide a $5.00 honorarium to help with transportation costs.

Qualifications Sought:

Interest in cooking and nutrition. Enjoy meeting new people.
The Criminal Record Check and Food Safe Certificate will be at no cost to volunteer.

Worksite: 3995 Fraser Street, Vancouver
Timeframe: 3 hours per week (September - July)
Hours preferred: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday mornings

4. Child Minders – Trauma Services
We are in need of volunteer child minders to help look after children while the parents and/or other family members are attending counselling sessions.

Number of Volunteers needed: 1
Qualifications Sought:

An interest in children, experience caring for children, a calm demeanor, good problem solving skills, reliable. RCMP records check required at no cost to volunteer.

Worksite: Kingsway Office - 1193 Kingsway (near Inverness0
Timeframe: 3 hours per week for one year
Hours preferred: tbd
Length of Commitment Sought: a minimum of three to six months, preferably longer

5. Child Minders - Healthy Connections
We are in need of volunteer child minders to help look after infants from one month to 30 months for short periods while the mother attends our Healthy Connections program. Mother's appointment lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Typically we schedule up to four mothers per day, beginning at 10:00 am and ending at approximately 4:00 pm.

Number of Volunteers needed:

4 - 6

Qualifications Sought:

An interest in babies, experience caring for babies, a calm demeanor, good health and ability to lift and carry babies, good problem solving skills, reliable. RCMP records check required at no cost to volunteer.

Worksite:

Family Services Kingsway Office - 1193 Kingsway

Timeframe: 6 hours per week
Hours preferred:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Friday from 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Length of Commitment Sought:

Open ended - babies need continuity, however, and it is to their benefit to be cared for by someone who is familiar to them. The group will span 6 to 8 weeks and will have spaces between sequences.

6. ESL Assistant
We are in need of a couple of volunteers to assist the ESL teacher in teaching English in the "ESL African Women's Program".

7. Child Care Assistant - New Westminster
We are in need of several volunteers to work with child care workers in the Children's Program (children 0-6 yrs) in our New Westminster programs.

8. Cooking Helper

10. Opportunity for Immigrants and refugees living in the city of New Westminster
Would you like to receive training to increase your knowledge around civic participation within a supportive environment? Join other newcomers and register for a four-month training period (Wednesdays, 12:30 – 2:30 pm) during which you will be connected with a more settled immigrant through the new Community Immigrant Mentorship Program. Training will begin in September or January. Please call Family Services of Greater Vancouver, 604-525-9144 ext 3667 for further information. Training, child minding, and transportation are provided FREE of charge.

11. Volunteer Opportunity for Immigrants interested in mentoring
Do you remember when you immigrated to Canada? Would you like to help a newcomer? If you are an immigrant living or working in the city of New Westminster and are interested in volunteering some of your time (as a mentor) with newcomers, Family Services of Greater Vancouver’s Community Immigrant Mentorship Program will match you (on a one-to-one) with a newcomer for a four-month period with a two hour committment per week. Training will be provided, as well as opportunities to connect with other mentors within a supportive environment, starting in December or January. 12. Volunteer Opportunity for Office Assistant - Family Services Licensed Adoption Agency
This is a great opportunity if you are retired and interested in volunteering your time and skill or just thinking about entering the workforce and looking for some casual office experience within a social service setting to help us with photocopying, scanning and other office duties.

No experience necessary but a positive and helpful attitude
