VISAC & TASA
Child and Family Program

The VISAC and TASA programs provide individual, sibling, family, and group counselling to children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse and/or trauma, and to non-offending family members. We work with children and youth up to age nineteen. VISAC & TASA promote a respectful and supportive parent-child relationship.

Because play is the natural medium for self-expression in children, play therapy is the primary therapeutic intervention for children who have experienced trauma. Non-directive and directive play, art and sand therapy, talk therapy and other therapeutic interventions including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are also used. Because a supportive parent(s)/caretaker(s) is the primary curative force in a child's life, they are invited to be involved as co-therapists to help strengthen the child and to maximize the healing process. Referral for teens requires their consent.
