Every year, the City of Richmond hosts the U-ROC Awards which celebrates the achievements and dedication of outstanding youth, youth groups and asset champions within the Richmond community. This year, two staff members from Richmond were honoured.
Jamie Smulders was recognized for “being gifted at engaging youth in difficult subjects and helping them build tools and skills to cope. She is also caring, compassionate and empathetic. She is passionate about her work and dedicated to helping youth overcome trauma and challenging life experiences.”
Michelle Johnson was recognized “for being a passionate advocate and resource to the youth she works with, helping them live independently. What sets [her] apart is her sincere compassionate approach and responsiveness to youth in need. The youth she aids are lucky to have her guide them through the challenges of living like an adult while still being youth.
