New Westminster Elder Abuse Unit wins award

Congratulations to the New Westminster Elder Abuse Unit which was awarded the “Elder Abuse Awareness to Action Award” for Innovation presented by the Simon Fraser University Gerontology Research Centre on May 27, 2013 at the Annual John K. Friesen Conference.

This is a pilot program that started in July 2008, and operates in partnership between Family Services and the New Westminster Police Service. It’s delivered in a partnership model, with a victim support worker partnering with a detective constable.

Members of the unit are Family Services’ Heather Whiteford, Reena Singh, Andrea Wright and Det. Cst. Shari Gulliver (of the New Westminster Police Department).

Congratulations to the team!
